Why DIY Hot Tub Removal Fails

A hot tub weighs between 500 and 1,000 pounds empty, and a dead one is usually full of water, which makes it far heavier. It sits in the hardest part of your yard to reach, wedged onto a deck or tucked behind a fence with a gate that is two inches too narrow. One wrong lift means a wrenched back, a cracked deck board, or a tub stuck sideways in a side yard.

What Is Included in Every Hot Tub Removal

No partial jobs. When we say hot tub removal, we mean the whole job:

  • Power and plumbing disconnection, once you have switched off the breaker and GFCI disconnect
  • Draining, whether you did it ahead of time or we pump it out on arrival
  • Cutting and dismantling the shell, cabinet, and insulation into carryable sections
  • Hauling every piece: shell, cover, steps, filters, and leftover parts
  • Sorting materials for recycling: plastics, metals, and wood separated
  • Full cleanup of the work area when we are done
02

Your Prep Checklist Before We Arrive

A little prep makes the day go faster. Here is exactly what to handle:

  • Power off: switch off the breaker and the GFCI disconnect that feeds the tub. The tub must be electrically dead before we touch it.
  • Water out: drain through the drain valve, a garden hose siphon, or a sump pump. If the pump is dead, tell us and we will bring our own.
  • Hoses and accessories off: remove the cover, steps, and any attached hoses or railings.
  • Clear the path: unlock gates, move patio furniture, and trim anything blocking the route to the street.
  • Fence panels: if the gate is too narrow, note it when you book so we can plan for a temporary panel removal.
  • Not sure about the electrical? If you cannot find the disconnect or feel uneasy, have an electrician confirm it first. We would rather wait a day than risk a live 220V line.

Our Four-Step Removal Process

  1. Assess and quote. Tell us the tub size, location, and access. We confirm a firm price before scheduling, so the number is settled before we arrive.
  2. Disconnect and drain. We verify the power is off, disconnect plumbing and electrical feeds, and drain any remaining water.
  3. Cut and dismantle. The shell, cabinet, and foam insulation are cut into sections right where the tub sits, using saws and shears. No crane needed for most backyard jobs.
  4. Haul and clean. Every section is carried out, loaded, and the site gets a final sweep. You are left with an empty pad, not a pile of fiberglass.

After the Tub Is Gone: Pads, Decks, and Yards

Most companies stop at the curb. We help you finish the project:

  • Concrete pad removal: that leftover slab can come out too, so you are not staring at a hot-tub-shaped monument in your yard.
  • Deck repair: cutting a tub out of a built-in deck can damage boards or framing. We can remove damaged sections and leave the structure clean for your contractor to finish.
  • Yard restoration: ruts, dead grass, and bare spots from years under a tub get graded and cleaned up, ready for sod or new landscaping.
  • Fence restoration: any temporarily removed fence panels go back up when we leave.

Tell us what you want the space to become, a patio, a garden, open lawn, and we will leave it ready for the next step.

What Affects Your Free Quote

Every hot tub is different, so every quote is custom and free. These are the factors that shape it:

  • Size and seat count: a 2-person tub and an 8-person tub are very different jobs.
  • Location: freestanding on a patio is simplest; built into a deck or sunk into the ground adds cutting and extraction work.
  • Access: wide-open backyards are easy; narrow side yards, steep slopes, and tight gates take more crew time.
  • Power and water status: tubs that are still wired or still full of water need extra steps.
  • Insulation type: full-foam tubs are denser and slower to cut than partial-foam models.
  • What stays behind: pad removal, deck repair, and yard restoration can be added to the same visit.

The quote is confirmed before we lift a tool, and it covers the full job, not just the hauling.

Service FAQs

Questions before pickup.

It helps, but it is not required. If you can drain it before we arrive, the job moves faster. If you cannot, because the pump is dead or you just do not want to deal with it, tell us when you book and we will factor the water into the plan.
The power must be off before we cut or move anything. We ask that the breaker is switched off and the tub is disconnected from power at the GFCI disconnect before our arrival. If you are unsure where the disconnect is, we will walk you through it on the phone, or you can have an electrician handle it.
No. We cut the tub into manageable sections in place and carry the pieces out through gates and side yards. We plan the exit route before we start cutting, so nothing gets wedged in a fence line.
It depends on access, size, and how much water is still inside. Most standard backyard removals take a few hours from arrival to final sweep. Built-in or deck-integrated tubs take longer because of the extra cutting and careful extraction.
Honest answer: sometimes. If the shell, jets, and heater are in good working order, we will tell you it may be worth listing, and we can remove it intact for a buyer or coordinate timing. If it is cracked, leaking, or the heater is dead, removal and recycling is the practical path.
